About Rée LeBlanc Gunter, Ph.D.
Dr. Rée LeBlanc Gunter is a clinical psychologist licensed in the State of Connecticut. She graduated from Hampton University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She went on to obtain her Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Psychology from The Pennsylvania State University, with an emphasis on multicultural issues. Dr. Gunter has been licensed and practicing in the area of psychology for over ten years. She has worked in various community outpatient clinics and university counseling centers, providing individual and group psychotherapy, substance abuse counseling, and employee assistance services. She has also provided consultation and program development services to various organizations. In addition, Dr. Gunter has designed and facilitated personal and professional workshops for non-profit organizations, corporations and community groups.
Dr. Gunter is very active in the Connecticut Psychological Association (CPA). She previously served on the Board of Directors as the Diversity Representative. Currently, she serves as the chairperson of the Ethnic Diversity Task Force (EDTF); a position she has held for a number of years. As chairperson of EDTF, she led the development of MindStylz, a program to increase mental health awareness in communities of color. MindStylz trains hair stylists and barbers to be aware of common signs of depression and anxiety and how to respond with referrals to mental health providers.
From a community perspective, Dr. Gunter mentors students who have an interest in careers in psychology. She also serves on the Board of Directors for DESIRE Academy, an organization in Stafford, Texas, which prepares African-American middle school students for secondary education and beyond.
